December, 2004, B. A. in Elementary Education
Before I attended College at SVSU, I was a soldier in the United States Army, Active Duty Jan 1984 to April 1988. My best assignment while on active duty was being stationed in Mainz, West Germany. I saw the Berlin Wall, while I was standing and and looking out over the Wall at Check point Charlie, I often thought that “in order to be an American citizen one should have to live in an oppressed country first.” Hopping some things might not be taken for granted, like they seem they are now. After active duty I went into the Reserve and National Guard while attending Delta and SVSU. While at SVSU I was ordered to Active Duty in support of Desert Shield/Storm in the fall of 1990. In 1997, after 13 years of service I left the Army as a Staff Sergeant E-6. School and training meetings and other obligations were conflicting with each other. In May 2002 I took a job up on Mackinac Island working for Mackinac Island Carriage Tours as a Tour Driver. As a tour driver I was required to give a narrated tour. I do not know which part of the job was better the history or the horses, I like both. I also like to hunt, fish, and write. I like History and science. When the opportunity presents itself I enjoy Grant Writing especially for local non-profits.
